Chocolate Macadamia Bars
Makes 36 bars
Ingredients
12 squares (1 ounce each) bittersweet chocolate or 1 package (12 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips
1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
2/3 cup whipping cream or undiluted evaporated milk
1 cup chopped macadamia nuts or almonds
1 teaspoon vanilla, divided
1 cup butter, softened
1-1/2 cups sugar
1 egg
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
   
1. Preheat oven to 375°F. Lightly grease 13×9-inch baking pan.
2. Combine chocolate, cream cheese and whipping cream in large heavy saucepan. Stir over low heat until chocolate is melted and mixture is smooth. Remove from heat; stir in nuts and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla. Set aside.
3. Beat butter and sugar in large bowl. Beat in egg and remaining 1/2 teaspoon vanilla. Add flour, baking powder and salt; blend well. Press half of butter mixture on bottom of prepared pan. Spread chocolate mixture evenly over top. Sprinkle remaining butter mixture over chocolate.
4. Bake 35 to 40 minutes or until golden brown. Cool in pan on wire rack. Cut into 2×1-1/2-inch bars.
