Classic Texas Chili

Ingredients

cup vegetable oil
|

pounds beef round or chuck, cut into 1-inch cubes
|

to 6 tablespoons chili powder
|
|
3
|
cloves garlic, minced
|
|

teaspoons salt
|
|
2
|
teaspoons dried oregano leaves
|
|
2
|
teaspoons ground cumin
|
|
2

teaspoons Original TABASCO® brand Pepper Sauce
|

quarts water
|
|
1/3
|
cup white cornmeal
|
|
|
Chopped onion (optional)
|
|
|

|
|
Heat oil in large saucepan over medium high heat. Add beef and brown on all sides. Stir in chili powder, garlic, salt, oregano, cumin, TABASCO® Sauce and water; heat to boiling. Reduce heat; cover and simmer 1 hour 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add cornmeal and mix well. Simmer, uncovered, 30 minutes or until beef is tender. Garnish with chopped onion, if desired. Serve with rice and beans.
