Grandma's® Gingerbread


Ingredients
1/2 cup shortening or butter
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup GRANDMA'S® Molasses
2 eggs
2-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1 cup hot water
   
Heat oven to 350°F. In medium bowl, blend shortening with sugar. Add molasses and eggs; beat well. Sift dry ingredients; add alternately with water to molasses mixture. Bake in greased 9-inch square pan about 50 minutes.
 
Hint   Just before serving, dust top of cake lightly with powdered sugar, if desired.
